“i have an original lyric sheeet for vanishing point and it's called 'new housey one' on that.”
“If the lyrics match the release version then it's probably because that was the second set of lyrics/vocals for that backing track. There is another version of the song featuring an entirely different set of lyrics and vocal melody.”
“i'll check the lyrics on the one i have but i'm pretty sure they're very close to the finished one”
“I wonder if the one that was part of the box of tapes was the first version. The description for that one (as provided by D. Sultan) was as follows:

18) NEW ORDER .THE HOUSEY ONE. ROUGHS SIDE A (2 versions of ALL THE WAY,

One is with Barney not singing but mumbling, the other is an instrumental)

/ TRACK No2 SIDE B (Instrumental of Vanishing Point)

19) NEW ORDER SIDE A (HOUSEY ONE MINUS CHORUSES) (Vanishing Point Jam session 30 Mins with Unknown Ideas) / SIDE B MT ONE (ALL THE WAY Jam Session 20 mins )

I've been trying to work out which working titles ('The /something/ One') map to which final tracks...”
“The impression I get is that the unheard version was the first idea with this backing, the release one was the second. I suspect there wouldn't be much in the way of vocals on the Sultan tape, though if there was it would match the unheard version.”
“I suppose tape 18 has got A/B mislabelled (as "THE HOUSEY ONE" would be Vanishing Point, and "8 TRACK No2" is All The Way), then? This makes me wonder if All The Way was ever called "MT One" (the "middle tempo" one?), or if the B side of tape 19 refers to some version of MTO that was recorded over with All The Way?”

“Maybe the other way around, with "All The Way" (your original MT One in this scenario) being recorded over by the instrumental track of what we now know as "MTO".”
