Letter
The Hallé, Ida Carroll, Geoffrey Griffiths
1941

Griff tells Ida he is very pleased of his tidying up efforts at the travel agents, but will have to bring some work with him to his shift with the Auxiliary Fire Service in Ashton that night. He knows it won't distract him from the fact that this is all getting in the way of their usual date night.
He hopes to see her on her Air Raid Precaution Warden patrol even just for a little while, if he waits by the Didsbury Post Office corner.
He has "decided to try to reach the tail end of Friday's rehearsal, when M. Sargent will be present" at the Hallé Chorus.
Then he hopes they could go to the cinema, "surely no nasty warning would sound then, to send us home before our time." He wonders if her weekend ARP Warden work is based at home at the shelter.
He's been playing cards and practicing cello, only to find a broken string.
