Artefact

Letter
Ida Carroll, Geoffrey Griffiths, Norman Allin
Palace Theatre
1941

Griff writes to Ida, hoping she understands that the "unyielding Bar parlour" seats at the George and Dragon (where he undertakes his Auxiliary Fire Service volunteering in Ashton) are unconducive to writing letters.
He reckons even if she did cycle down to see him he may be in bed, "you see you make me long for 'alerts' now, so that I might meet you in the small hours. You may have to throw a small half brick at my window, which, by the way, is the front one - just in case!"
They'd been to cricket but he longs for time with her without crowds.
He enjoyed listening to opera on the radio (including local lad Norman Allin), much more than the company they saw at the Palace.
He is so busy at work in the travel agents that all he gets time for is "a quick look now and again at your photo." He plans to meet her on Thursday, for "anything you say, darling and most beautiful."
