808 State
1st August 1991

Photo from an article in International Musician magazine from aug 91, showing the 808 state four piece in Fon Studios (sheffield) during a remix session for the group Yes. Who I believe were not very happy when the 808 mix only contained one element of their origenal tune ..the snare drum.
Ok Nerd interlude ..the shot shows 808s 1st mini Moog synth
given to them as a gift from Trevor Horn (Buggles/ 80sSuper producer and boss of ZTT to whom the State were signed)
However this historic piece of Kit (as used on Video Killed etc)
was stolen between the x ray machine at Heathrow airport and LAX..This mini moog heard on EX EL. However the Mini Moog heard on the previous album"90" belonged to 10 cc and was hired
from Strawberry Studios.
The mixing desk in the shot is an AMEK Mozart.Which were made in Salford at Islington Mill..a lot of northern studios had AMEK desks including Revolution (an Angela) Square One Bury (an Angela and an g something?) Mirage studios (a Mozart)
Most London studios were favouring the Oxford SSL desk, the only one of those in the northwest being at Parr street Studios
in Liverpool..Computer controlled mixing desks were becoming popular for the complex mixing and Amek desks often had their SUPER TRUE software requiring real 5 inch floppy discs for back up..or the 8 hands of 808 State!
