This flyer also features two nights with Suns of Arqa featuring Prince Far I on the 6th & 7th.
These were Far I's last ever shows in the UK before returning to Jamaica, where he was killed during a robbery at his home in September the following year.
These shows were recorded and released on the French label ROIR as 'The Musical Revue' and later compiled with other material on Mick 'Wadada' Ward's Arka Sounds label as 'Suns of Arqa Live with Prince Far-I'.
The band that night comprised of Helen Watson and Prince Hammer on backing vocals,
Snuff on drums (later part of Distant Cousins), the appropriately named Spliff on Bass, Chris Gill on Guitar, Anthony Behrendt on Keyboards (played guitar on some live shows with ACR around 1986), Tony Trundel on Violin and finally Mick Ward himself on Guitar.
Don't remember them as I didn't move up to Manchester til 1987.
Do remember Oduduwa (listed above on the 4th) as I played drums in them in 1988-89. They were an african hi -life band that lead by Tafa Onigbanjo. They were around until the late 80's and played many gigs at the Band On The Wall. Tafa also lead the African music workshops there. We used to practice in the rehearsal space below the Boardwalk club, sharing a room with Jazz Defectors.
Does anyone remember a jazz fusion band called Free Parking? Think they featured Harold Salisbury on saxes, flute and played many gigs at BOTW. They used to play a great version of the jazz standard 'Sunflower'.
