Steve Moran
Nia Centre
1994

Hi,
My first gig was with Justin Robertson at Konspiracy, the first tune I played was "I Believe" by Octave One, you never forget your first do you ? This must have been 1990
My last gig was for the Premier of "Dancing in the Ruins" a film that I had created the soundtrack for.The Last song I played was "Not Forgotten" by Leftfield. This was likely to be 1994
I dj'd at Pollen,Transform the Hacienda,Ambidextrous, Prana, Parliament, Sunset radio to name a few. Then I went to University and got out of the scene, moved to London , did that thing.
I now live in London have two kids and an ex missus.
I met many many truly brilliant people and am lucky to still count them as friends.
I don't think any other City in the world could have created such a scene .There is something that you find in Manchester that just doesn't exist anywhere else.I love coming back home .
Take care,
Stephen

“My close friend Steve Moran has died (Sept 2022). His story has not been documented because he was a favoured DJ for one of Manchester's gangs who brought the first e's to Manchester and later created the Parliament venue. Some of the experiences I shared with him found their way into my work as a Playwright and Poet. I asked Steve to mix live for my play "Excess XS" at Contact Theatre in 1992, the first theatre play about the rave scene and the first to use a DJ mixing live.
Steve also created the tunes for my short film about the rave scene, "Dancing in the Ruins" (Tiger Lily Films), in 1997. The film premiered in a nightclub as the closing event of Kino Film Festival in Manchester, attended by Tony Wilson. The film went on to be screened at the I.C.A. in London, where we were invited to take part in a post-show discussion as part of their archive.
Steve had a wicked sense of humour.”

“Hello, Steve was my cousin, although unfortunately I didn't know him very well. I met him in May at his step dad's birthday. I wish I'd given more time to speak to him longer now. I'm also a DJ although nowhere near as known, in fact not known unlike him. I haven't played big clubs. I'm just so sorry for his family and sorry he has passed. I'd love to see the films and hear any of his mixes if anyone can help, I'm on Facebook as Carry TomCat Thom. Such a sad time. If only I'd got to know him better. One of my lifes regrets. X”
