UNCONFIRMED FACTS. Manchesters HMV shop owned by none other than EMI accounts for 2% of UK record sales. 50% of all money spent on entertainment eventually finds its way into the coffers of EMI.
I dont think people should give EMI anymore money. If you dont it will probably involve hassles for you. Maybe you want to maybe Im being a patronizing cunt saying it in the first place(you are what you eat?) But even so there is a stranglehold on the music scene (nearly said business then but realized thats the stranglehold Why do I like Brackets so much?) and its people like EMI who are strangling it Their are people trying to do something about it The floating anarchy tour (Here and Now The Fall Patrik Fitzgerald Bolton Institute of Technology Dec 9th FREE) I have heard from promoters that the free tour involves the promoter providing food and drink for the tour and a load of liggers Even so most gigs mean a lot of money for agencies record cos etc and not much for bands In nature the first rule of a parasite is that it doesnt kill the body its living off The music biz may not be killing live music but its getting pretty near the line Support live music yeh but support live music that means live music will benefit from it (your support) not EMI and co

LIVERPOOL TO A MANCUNIAN
I only spent a weekend in Liverpool and much of that at a conference so any impressions may not be justified but here goes anyway
My overriding impression of Liverpool was of walking through the shopping precinct near Erics (the only club I visited see Ded Byrds review) of pairs of uniformed gorillas in pairs marching past swinging their clubs OK so it was Saturday night just after the pubs had thrown out ( 10 30 in Liverpool) but in 100yd 20 walked past me Overkill doesnt just apply to the nuclear bomb
Liverpool is smaller than M/C so is its city centre its also a lot hillier (gasp) and it looks like theres alot less cash about Their University union was empty all the time I was there the venue of the conferenceand looked like its only used when bands are on Besides Erics (excellent) I only visited a couple of pubs The Philharmonic incredible architecture and the best shit house Ive ever been in and some shitty Watneys pub I had Pete Kavanaghs recommended to me by some guy in Ericsbut didnt go Isaw the twin cathedrals no big thrill I beleive their football teams are not much good either
