Hooker
The Roadhouse
Flyer, 2002
The flyer Hooker supporting Interpol.

Hooker became Lines in 2013.

“LIINES take the punk ethics to a new level – growling bass lines, grunted guitar hooks ad powerful, melodic (even soulful) chants, pummel out free thinking sound waves as broadcast from ’76 – all channelled through a vibrant, wall-shaking post-New-Wave attack…” ManchesterMusic.co.uk

Here's a photo taken backstage at The Roadhouse in 2015, showing a poster for what is probably The National's debut in Manchester back in 2005.

This was not long after Alligator's release. It was an incredible, intense gig - Matt Berninger became more and more frenzied as it progressed, clambering over anything that would support him, and by the end he was virtually hanging by his arm from the beams. Only downside was it was one of those packed Roadhouse gigs in the days before the smoking ban where you'd wake up the following day completely kippered, with a passive smoking hangover.
