A braid of hair from Ida Carroll's personal collection. Possibly hers, possibly someone else's - we're not sure! The artefact is possibly an ivory bookmark we think, stored together with the hair.

An envelope of hair from the 1870s belonging to a 3 year old Walter Carroll (1869-1955, father of Ida Carroll, teacher, composer and music education professional). Walter supported Hilda Collens in her ambitions to lead the Matthay School of Music (later to become the Northern School of Music).

Not sure how much hair a 3 year old is supposed to have but someone cut an absolute chunk off this kid.

Nothing says music like an ashtray.

This ashtray was one of the commemorative items of the Northern School of Music's golden jubilee celebrations in 1970. You can just make out the etching on the side.

Did you receive one? Know anyone who went to the school? Do you remember its staff or students? We'd love to hear from you.
