Middleton Civic Hall
1977

with the news that the boomtown rats are touring again this year I thought I would share this with you. In the summer of 77 I and two friends got the chance to "roadie" for the boomtown rats at middleton civic hall. after spending most of the day with Gerry cott, pete briquette and garry Roberts (geldoff simon crowe and jonny fingers were at the hospital) the gig was called off due to geldoffs sore throat. we were left with the support band , a bunch of hippies called frogbox, and a punk disco. it wasn't pretty. we got to meet the other three backstage for 5 brief minutes, and they promised to return to middleton. I don't think they ever did

“Despite a credibility issue, the Rats were a great band. Top tunes, quality musicians, and excellent stagecraft. 'Tonic For The Troops' is as good a power punk album as any other released in the era.”
