Ben Folds Five @ The Apollo

I ditched my boyfriend of the time's High School awards ceremony to come and see this gig... He wasn't especially happy with me, but I'd take Ben Folds over boring speeches from GSCE teachers any day.

The Apollo's not the best of venues, but even so the gig was great. The band played pretty much their entire first two albums (or at least the good bits of them) and there was much singing along and nearly-in-time swaying. I vaguely remember the opening act being woman in a silver dress with an incredibly high voice and a Florence & the Machine-meets-classical opera vibe. I meant to look her up afterwards, but her name slipped my memory. "She's a brick & I'm drowning slowly..." however, was stuck in my head for days.

Me and the aforementioned boyfriend mutually decided to stop seeing each other a month or so later. Different interests.
