New Order's collaboration with Liam Gillick for Manchester International Festival was cool. They played tunes that haven't featured in sets for years such as Shellshock - a personal fave. The visual production was incredible. The 12-strong synth orchestra conducted by Joe Duddell was great, but I was actually expecting something quite different. I imagined loads of unreliable ancient synths being played in an austere Wendy Carlos style with no traditional instruments. Maybe next time.
