BAD BEER,TERRIBLE FOOD,SOGGY CARPETS,GREAT MUSIC


If you wanted live music the "Spread" had it. Superstar drummer Simon Wright (ex AC/DC),started off in this pub. A true bikers pub,it's now a Lidl store.F104 rehearsed here and played here regularly.Other local bands and mates of mine that gigged here included Orchis,Hostage(drummer Garry Bowler now plays with Medicine Hat),Warlock,Crafty Avenue,Fire Clown,Slack Alice,Menace,Tora Tora(with Simon Wright),J.S.R.S.R.B., Wild Ram and Blackfire.
Other bands included Vardis, Sloth,S.F.W,Spider,Venom, Silverwing,AIIZ(Simon again),Rough Justice,Puzzler,Shy Tots,Joby,Graf Spey and Loud n' Lazy

“Ahhh...I'm going all misty-eyed. I gigged here with JSRSRB (Joe Stalin's Red Star Radio Band) on many occassions - if fact, we had a short-lived residency. I also saw some great performances from yourselves and many of the other bands named above. What was the name of your singer - lovely bloke...and 'Rob Roy' (an anthem!)”

“I was lending my PA and mikes to a trio called HORIZON, a Genesissy type thing with Lee Cooper on vocals. I'd been to a 'do' beforehand and was wearing a suit and tie. I'd just finished setting the gear up and sat down on my own with a beer when 3 17 year old ersatz bikers came in and started to comment on me being a Mod in a bikers pub! Knobheads!
But I did have some good times in there, even if the draft beer was almost undrinkable-Happy Days!”

“I disagree about the bad beer, the dark Chesters ale was a great drink. Playing there was great and most bands were good but the best night in the 70's and 80's had to be seeing in the new year after watching the end of year old grey whistle test.”
