Artefact

Photograph
Glenn Routledge, Brendon O'Brien
1980

Brendon and Andy with the Mancunian Gay banner outside the Crown Courts in Manchester. Mancunian Gay magazine was first established in 1980 by a group of volunteers, including Brendon and Glenn at Manchester’s first Gay Centre, 182-184 Waterloo Place, Oxford Road, Manchester. The first issues of the magazine were written and typed on an electric typewriter and glued onto boards, either in the Gay Centre basement or in our kitchen. The banner was made by us and in the style of the new masthead for the magazine that Glenn designed (in Letraset!). Not music related but certainly part of the Manchester Gay movement of the time.
