Hostage
The Spread Eagle Hotel (Ashton)
1981

HOSTAGE From left to right........ Steve Cooke (bass), Garry Bowler (drums), Mick Leach (guitar and vocals). Mick had played at the Spread for as long as I could remember.I first saw him about 1975 with his odd shaped guitar in Orchis, belting out 'House of the rising sun' and 'Hold your head up' Quite a few years later I had the privilege of playing alongside three of the finest musicians I have ever known. Before Hostage Mick was with Tora Tora.Sadly, Mick and Steve have recently gone to the great gig in the sky and will no doubt be jamming with the best and boozing with the rest. Garry went on to play in Mourneblade and now rubs shoulders with many a celebrity as a member of Medicine Hat.

“A great shot and one which I treasure. We had finished rehearsing and had crossed the road from opposite the College on Beaufort road, Ashton. I was putting away my drumkey when the pic was taken. I had just taken delivery of a new kit. We were off to the 'Spread' to celebrate! Hostage were known for wearing 'bush'hats...I rarely wore one...kind of like ZZ Top and drummer Frank Beard..who doesn't have a beard!

I am blessed knowing that I was able to play with 2 of the finest musicians in the area, who allowed me to explore the drums and develop my art.

2 dear freinds, I miss them...

Garry”
