Flyer advertising gigs for 'The Funhouse' night at The Mayflower. There are a lot of local bands that were around at the time playing, so I am wondering if 'The Funhouse' was a local band night?

“The Night Visitors played at the Mayflower in October 1980, to a packed audience of approximately zero people.

It was an old cinema, I think. I drove along Birch Road today - no sign of the building.”
“do you (or anyone else) have a photo of it?”
“I haven't a photo. I remember it being a big hall, with lots of sound system bass bins standing around - the place was run by rastas, I think.”
“I never made it to the Mayflower but, living in Denton, used to pass it regularly along Hyde Rd. Yeah - it was an old, single story, pitched roof, brick-built cinema/music hall scuzzy type place. I was a bit young for its Crasstafarian/Oi type post-punk gigs. I think there's a car wash on the site now - on your left coming out of town.

A quick google of its former "Stoneground" incarnation (mentioned on one of the flyers here) leads to a mine of info at cres1.lancs.ac.uk/~esarie/Stoneground...
“Does anyone know whatever happened to Ian Chambers of The Hoax ?.We had a band when we were in the same class at school around 1974 and knocked about together when we left, the last time I saw him he had just joined The Hoax.”
“the Mayflower was previously Stoneground in around 1972/1973 and hosted bands like Gong and commander cody , etc etc - it was and old cinema in Birch St Gorton”

“Result! A quick google of "cinema birch street" came up with this - photo and memories. The Mayflower/Stoneground was built as The Corona Cinema and was then The Southern Sporting Club variety venue. Also photo showing its former location all at
