Artefact

Photograph
The CasualTies
The Manchester Arms
1988

The only photo I have of the (then) landlord, Martin Gibb (leaning against the wall). This was actually a rehearsal but folks used to drift upstairs to watch anyway and it looks like Martin is scrutinising something that's being rolled up!
I'm using a Marlin bass that Martin gave me in an attempt to embarass me about not celebrating birthdays etc. It only helped to exacerbate a trapped nerve but bless him for trying!
Hmmm, also a smoking archive shot.

I still have fond memories of the Christmas Eve gig we did where there were half a dozen fights and 3 stabbings. The Stones only managed one at Altamont (the guy died at that one though). When a fight broke out Martin would punch the first head that emerged from the fray regardless of who it was so he was firm but fair in that respect. He was an ex-copper however.....”

“I only remember women fighting inside the pub, the blokes (for the most part) took their grievances ouside. The show always went on (and on, and on....)”
