The Gallery
1989

This was one of our best gigs but theres a sad tale. Our first demo attracted a bit of interest from CBS Records who asked for more material and details of upcoming gigs. The people putting on the gigs at the Gallery at the time had an 8 track studio at the side of the stage and it was decided that they would tape this performance and we could bang it off to the record co as a live demo. We bought a reel of 1/2" Ampex tape (which was mega-expensive) for the recording. On the night we were hyped up thinking there might be A&R blokes in the audience and were played a storming gig. When they played the tape afterwards everything had recorded perfectly except for the drums which just came out as a distant tapping. We wasted our money on the tape and wasted a load of time. By the time we got our acts together to go in a studio again record company interest had waned. I enjoyed that gig as The Gallery was decent venue with a great Kebab shop next door (Topkapi)
