Artefact

Photograph
Buzzcocks
7th October 1977

This picture has recently been discovered, and is part of a collection taken on this evening at Liverpool Polytechnic, by the writers of Bombsite fanzine in 1977. The photo was not used in the fanzine, but there was an interview performed that is documented in Bombsite issue #3. The support bands that night were the Skunks The New Hearts and [maybe] John Cooper Clark.

“Liverpool Polytechnic punk concert October 7th 1977, The Buzzcocks, The Skunks the New Hearts and possibly John Cooper Clark were on the schedule that night.
As punk concerts around the North of England grew more popular through 1977, October saw the beginning of a different type of following as the bands seemed to get tighter and the closet punks were starting to participate in the movement.

“steveg - this is not the night your bass was nicked as Garth, though he isn't in this pic, was still playing with the buzzers then, well at least for one more night! The next night they were at Mr Georges in Coventry Garth got pissed smashed his new Gibson Thunderbird walked off the stage and was given the heave-ho! Your first gig was at Nottingham Sandpipers 10 Nove 77 with the Lurkers supporting. Your bass and Shelley's Gordon Smith were nicked in Liverpool at the Uni the following year.
JCC was one of the supports at this gig.”
