Many good books recently on Manchester’s incredible music heritage -a Case of Pride and personal favorite -Tony Davidson’s Wyman-esque opus about the TJM years published 2021. Chapters on many bands from that spellbinding era -Buzzcocks, Drones, Joy Division, Distractions, Thunderboys, Frantic Elevators -and hilarious disclosure that Morrissey actually auditioned for Slaughter and the Dogs but didn’t get the gig! Shout out to Alan Adler of the Thunderboys -got his own chapter being creator of TJM’s iconic record sleeves and posters. Malcolm Garrett (now MBE no less) and Peter Saville coinciding with Adler at the Art School was an alignment of new wave’s three most artistically influential planets -the Saville exhibition at the design museum -a cultural highlight.
