Fast Cars, Dave Turner, Sister Ray, Paul Wainwright (The Change)
The Apollo, Kelly's
23rd November 1978

Poster for The Clash at Manchester Apollo 45 years ago today. The Clash photos were taken by Dave Turner, right in the thick of it. Support came from The Innocents and The Slits.
Flyers were thrown from the balcony for Manchester band Fast Cars at Kelly's Club in Amber Street that night,so straight after The Clash me and Dave both went. The support band was another local band Sister Ray.
Comments appreciated.
Below is a link for audio, set list and info from the Apollo.

β€œI went to Kelly's to see Fast Cars and Sister Ray the night The Clash played Manchester Apollo. The venue was fairly quiet at first, but I recall someone saying it would fill up later when The Clash gig was over, which it did. I was a regular attender at Kelly's that autumn of 1978 but it was the first time I'd seen Fast Cars, and the only time I ever saw Sister Ray. Fast Cars were really energetic on stage, blasting out a brand of power punk pop which was right up my street! They were great! I continue to follow the band's fortunes to this day. Last seeing them at the Spinning Top in Stockport on 4th November 2022. Long Live Fast Cars!”
