The Opera House
20th June 2008

About 8 years ago I was stood on the platform of Hammersmith tube station with my friend Andy. I think we may have been to a gig at the Odeon - not sure, but whatever we were talking about concerts. Andy and I have been to lots of gigs together.

I said something like 'all i have to do is see Neil Young doing a 'Best of' set live and Leonard Cohen live and i'll die a happy man'...

Unbelievably this year has provided both - and both with Andy.

Earlier this year I got to see Neil Young at the Apollo - about three rows from the front, right infront of the man, and he did a two setter (acoustic then electric) best of... and last night i got that bit close to having a smile on my face as that big bus of death smashes into me when Leonard Cohen did a perfect concert at the beautiful Opera House. Wow... what a guy!

The set was faultless, his voice still magnificent, the band great (occasionally a bit too slick, but hey) and there was a real sense of occasion.

I never really thought I'd get to see Len live, so it was such a great treat.
