Manchester School of Art has always been closely linked to the Manchester music scene. No more so than during the late 70's and early 80's when several of our Art Students were either members of Manchester New Wave bands or producing art for their record sleeves and promotional material.
Along with among others Linder Sterling and Malcolm Garrett the late 70's graduate Peter Saville holds a special place in Manchester music history.
He co-founded Factory Records and many of his now infamous sleeves were actually designed in the art school studios.
The Joy Division Unknown Pleasures sleeve from 1979 is a classic piece of design history.
