“Used to work mid week @ The Sporran 77/78 .It was run by a guy called Costa's . During the day the downstairs disco was used for dining , they actually had the hot plates behind the dj booth , at night they were covered with a thin metal plate ( ie. shelf for records) .One Thursday night I was doubling up with the Pembroke Halls (Walkden)
arrived about 11 with two cases of vinyl (students night Rock n Reggae) some bright spark had left one of the hot plates on yes you guessed it ! 20 mins later half my tunes had melted !oh happy days:-)”
“I used to dj there in the very early days at weekends. I used to dj The Pheonix or UMIST union first and then nip down and do a couple of hours at the Sporran. I had a massive row with Costas one night because he objected to me plugging my other gigs. I guest dj'd there on occasion until about '81.”
