Roger Day
Piccadilly Radio
2nd April 1974

At 5am on the 2nd of April in 1974 a legend was born when the first Piccadilly Radio jingle hit the airwaves. All went fairly smoothly through the first news bulletin until DJ Roger Day's turntable malfunctioned so that the first second of The Beach Boys' Good Vibrations sounded positively squidgy.

You can listen to the full first hour of transmission in Manchester Central Library's Sound+Vision pods (ref DAVIES/50). Deposited by Neal Davies. Copyright Bauer Media. All rights reserved.
