Carmel, Bee Vamp, Carmel Mccourt
1984

In 1980 I joined a band, The Cocktail Party, and moved into a house with them in Whallay Range. Another Manchester band, Bee Vamp, who were very good friends of ours, would make use of our rehearsal room in the cellar of our house. Carmel McCourt was initially singing with Bee Vamp and then formed 'Carmel' with Bee Vamp bassist Jim Parris and his cousin Gerry Darby. Being a music fan and general collector of 'stuff', I would record any performances of bands I knew if I caught them on TV. So I have a lot of 'stuff'! Here are Carmel performing 'I Thought I Was Going Mad' live on BBC's 'Pebble Mill at One' broadcast from the Pebble Mill studios in Birmingham. The song is from their 1984 album 'The Drum Is Everything'. I recently re-connected with Carmel via a post by Dave Haslam in 2024 so will be digging through the several hundred videos I have to see what else I can find!
