1986

In 1980 I joined a band, The Cocktail Party, and moved into a house with them in Whallay Range. Another Manchester band, Bee Vamp, who were very good friends of ours, would make use of our rehearsal room in the cellar of our house. Carmel McCourt was initially singing with Bee Vamp and then formed 'Carmel' with Bee Vamp bassist Jim Parris and his cousin Gerry Darby. Being a music fan and general collector of 'stuff', I would record any performances of bands I knew if I caught them on TV. So I have a lot of 'stuff'! Here's Carmel (Carmel McCourt, Jim Parris and Gerry Darby plus Johnny Foralin) with Courtney Pine, the Jazz Warriors and dancers, The Jazz Defektors, on a 5hr long Euro Tube special from 1986. Performing a version of Thelonius Monks' 'Round Midnight'. Hosted by Paula Yates and Jools Holland.
