The Roadhouse
2025

In this heartfelt interview, Debs Wild shares her extraordinary journey from working in childcare to becoming a key player in the British music industry — and discovering Coldplay.

Debs opens up about her Northern roots, her passion for music, and how sheer determination got her a foot in the door at labels like PWL and Kiss 102. With humour and humility, she recalls creating a mock newspaper called Wild Times to stand out from the crowd — long before LinkedIn or online CVs.

From stuffing envelopes to working with DJs like Danny Hussain and entering Manchester’s dance music scene, Debs took every opportunity that came her way. Her early career included a stint at the iconic Roadhouse in Manchester, where she booked now-legendary bands and club nights. She reflects on booking a London band called Mule (later Moak), the behind-the-scenes work of running gigs, and hosting her own club night, The Shiznit, with guests like MC Tunes and members of Space Monkeys.

Debs also reminisces about the electric atmosphere of the Roadhouse, where Coldplay and Elbow once played intimate shows. She speaks fondly of the “family vibe” that defined the venue and the city’s music scene.

Of course, one of the most inspiring parts of Debs’ story is how she discovered Coldplay in 1998 at In the City in Manchester. She recalls the moment she saw them live — a band not on her radar but recommended by friends of friends — and how Chris Martin’s voice and the band’s energy convinced her they had something special. Though her boss at the time passed on signing them, Debs’ support of the band never wavered. By 2001, Coldplay brought her in to work with them — a working relationship and friendship that continues to this day.

She also opens up about her role as a fan liaison and her behind-the-scenes support on their record-breaking tours. From personal birthday shout-outs during “Politik” to helping the band navigate career-shaping decisions early on, Debs’ influence and loyalty shine through.

Whether you’re a fan of Coldplay, the Manchester music scene, or simply stories of passion and perseverance, this interview is packed with charm, insight, and rare reflections on an incredible career.

Watch now to hear how Debs Wild helped shape one of the world’s biggest bands — and learn how trusting your instincts, knocking on doors, and following your heart can change everything.
