Avril A
9th December 1985

Manchester Evening News feature on Avril A, coinciding with her appearance on the pilot episode of The Gong Show, presented by Frankie Howerd.

Avril is quoted as saying: “I know people are laughing... They can’t be sure I am serious. But I know I am. And I don’t mind people laughing as long as they are watching. I’ve learnt to love myself.”

“By day Avril Eventhal is, in her own words, a “38-year-old housewife with crooked teeth and tummy bulge”. By night, in white feathers and other outrageous finery, she is Avril A…a cult act on Manchester’s night-club scene.... Her fans collect Avril videos, featuring Avril performing her own compositions, like Sex Slaves of New Orleans; Avril’s aerobics advice (Stay Fat and Prance); and Avril’s cookery hints (How to Make the Perfect Fried Onion Sandwich)”
