Programme Notes:
The work was partly inspired by Animo’s combination of instruments and their playing style. I wanted the work to reflect their ethos and be a true duet rather than the piano merely accompanying the alto flute. The other inspiration for the work was the time we are living in and the ecological challenges we're facing
1. ‘Worlds Apart’ is about the natural world existing alongside the industrial, man made world
2. 'There’s Still Hope’ is simply that - hope
3. ‘While the River Flows’ depicts a river in flow but is also the river of life in flow
When you put the individual titles together they sum the situation up - We (the human race) are Worlds Apart from the planet but There’s Still Hope While the River Flows
