Kym Sims became one of the defining voices of early 1990s dance music with her classic hit Too Blind To See It, a track that crossed over from the underground house scene into the UK Top 10 and remains a dancefloor favourite more than 35 years later.

In this interview, Kym looks back on her remarkable journey from Chicago to chart success in the UK. She explains how she began her career singing commercial jingles for major brands including McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell before a chance meeting with legendary Chicago house producer Steve “Silk” Hurley changed everything.

Kym shares the story of recording Too Blind To See It, how house music found her rather than the other way around, and why the song became far bigger in the UK than it ever was in the United States. She discusses her experiences on Atlantic Records, reaching No. 5 in the UK charts, appearing on Top of the Pops, and the surreal feeling of hearing her own music on the radio while driving with her children.

The conversation also explores Chicago’s house music scene, the difference between success in America and Britain, and why artists such as Adonis, Derrick May and other dance music pioneers often found greater recognition overseas.

Kym talks candidly about fame, being recognised by fans, performing across the UK, and her memories of Manchester, the Haçienda, Pride events and some unforgettable live performances. She also reflects on the support she has received from the LGBTQ+ community throughout her career and why those audiences remain so important to her today.

A major focus of the interview is the upcoming reimagined version of Too Blind To See It, released through Armada Music. Kym explains why she resisted remaking the song for many years, what finally changed her mind, and how the new version stays true to the original while giving it a fresh life for a new generation of listeners.
