Artefact
Alice Elgar’s Recipe Book. A leather-bound notebook belonging to Lady Elgar, dating from her premarital days as Alice Roberts (“AR”), its pages crowded with recipes for cakes and cure-all’s as well as dozens of dishes. Most of the writing is in Alice’s hand, but the writing of numerous other hands indicates her practice of requesting recipes and medicinal advice from friends and household staff who came and went in the Elgar’s’ household employ.
