Polars Bar
1989

This was the bar run by Hacienda regular Lee Pickering and his girlfriend Tara. It was a regular hangout of all the Manchester bands of the time - who used to prop up the bar here rather than get hassled by fans down at Dry Bar. Bez used to organise 5-a-side football matches in the car park. And when DJs weren't playing, Lee had a great jukebox too. The best parties there were always after Lee closed up though - and he had 'after-hours' in the flat upstairs. Lee was admirably tight with the booze though - and no-one ever got a free drink. Not even me, and I djed there four nights a week!
