Berlin

"Private Road" was another Goth/indie night creation that formed the trio of weekend nights out that saw- Berlin Thursday, devilles Friday and Cloud Nine Saturday - think this is about 83. Great music but too much dry ice !!! anyone know who was DJ these nights??

83 is about right. Steve & Helen Bracewell were "Private Road". Steve was the main DJ & I think he may have deejayed the Roxy Room at Pips at some point prior. I know he mentored me as a DJ around this time and I think Dave Booth before me. Sometimes I got to warm up early on here but Keith (Caidh?) (last name "Mathews" I think) also played. Fridays were more of a mod/scooter/hard times denim look/soul night there. Mani was a regular for sure Fridays. Maybe Ian Brown too. Saturdays a mix of everything I think.

Hi Martin, I remember you! I was going out with Stephen's brother Carl, and later married him. (We split up years ago but I'm still called Bracewell.)
Stephen sadly died in 1986, and I haven't heard from Caidh for many years. There was also Deborah who I think did some DJing and went round with the request list (were you not going out with her?)
Also Dead Bob and Andy on the bar, and Malcolm the doorman.

So sad when steve died , lost a really good friend, never known anyone with so much energy . Does anyone know what happended to Helen, Caidh, or malcolm. Re the dry ice , i remember us making a dry ice machine in steves flat out a converted bread bin ready for the clubs that night, and turning up with the pack of dry ice in the back of helen moggie van . ah the glamour

Hello Bill, I vaguely remember you I think, sorry. Helen went to work in Saudi Arabia and ended up in the Caribbean. I'm in touch with Caidh and Malcolm on Facebook now though if you want to add me (Rhoda Bracewell, obviously). Or just look for Malcolm Reid and Keith Fitzpatrick Matthews.

Hi Rhoda, I Dj'd at PIPS and DeVilles, tall guy with white hair, usually wore a hat....I know all Bowie fans look the same :-) I must be the only person not of facebook, but will get on there soon. Thanks for the information. We have been out of the country pretty much since the late 80's so lost touch with a lot of people, but have a place back in the UK now. Cheers, Bill

Bill, who's 'we'? I do think I remember you, or at least remember Stephen and Helen talking about you. I was really too young for Pips but a fake birth certificate and lots of make up got me membership from 82. (Before I met S&H, and I'm 45 next month.)
