“I was at the Lemon Drops and Bodines nights - despite 5am alarm calls the next days. Missed the Mondays though - sleeping, probably!

Interesting times these - post-C86 indie mixing in with early dance and hip hop thru to the whole explosion.”

“I was at the Mondays night, I seem to remember Freaky Dancin starting up and Shaun was nowhere to be seen, he was sat in ' the corner ' and came wandering thru the crowd and jumped onstage and said ' this songs called Macgowens had a car crash ' apparently MacGowen was a friend of the Shaun and Paul Ryder. Great gig with about 50 people there ! This was during Shauns hat wearing phase and he was never seen without a blue fishermans hat, as copied by a certain Stone Rose sometime later.”

“Saw the Bodines on that night and also McCarthy on another Thursday night gig. It seemed as though once certain bands outgrew The Boardwalk, they would rock up at the Hacienda.”
