The Apollo
26th October 1980

AC/DC played the MEN arena last night, April 09. I wasn't there but I was at this - Back In Black tour at the Apollo, October 1980. Slipped a bouncer something like two quid and sat on the wall at the back of the balcony. I was on the punky side but loved AC/DC - still do. The gig was awesome but I wish I'd seen them with Bon Scott.

I seem to remember seeing The Ramones and The Jam at the same venue in the same week!

Think I've read a story somewhere, was it on here, about DC on the lash in Manchester in the early days following....was it a gig at the Electric Circus or something to do with Strawberry Studios?

“'DC went to Strawberry Studios after playing the Free Trade Hall in 77. They jammed with a few people who were there & there are rumours of a tape excisting featuring Angus, Malcolm & Bon.
I too was at the BIB gig, and I was also there the year earlier to see the Highway To Hell tour....I've a bootleg of the gig too. The Ramones did play around that time, but I missed the gig....shame, cos it was 5 years before they next played in Manchester!”

“Being a saddo, I found a website that says DC played the Circus in 76, then FTH in 77 then the Circus again the next night?? Was the FTH gig a support slot?”

“No, they were on the Let There Be Rock tour, 1st time in decent sized venues cos the previous tours had sold out everywhere. The 2nd Circus gig was a throw in...no gig so they were offered the chance to play. There is a bootleg of this, and Bon says says "here's some real punk rock for ya" just before they play Problem Child.”
