Advert
The Renegades, White Lightnin'
Midland Hotel, W Didsbury
1981

MEN listings advert for White Lightnin'(g) at the Midland Hotel ("The Mid"), West Didsbury, date unknown, around 1980/81. The Mid had a regular 50's Rock n Roll night every Saturday, other bands that would have played there would have included The Renegades (we shared a bass player, Mark Coley, who lived around the corner from the Mid). At this time we had started to use a double bass for part of the set and this is also the night Stuart Warburton met and joined the band, I think Mark had introduced him.

“The 'Rockin' Jam Rolls' featuring Outrageous Allan held a Tuesday night residency at the Midland Hotel, West Didsbury during the early 1980's.
The only regular member of the band was Outrageous Allan, the rest of the band being made up of various guests, from Vinni Reilly to Hooky to Johnny Roadhouse and onwards.
Every Tuesday the band created a different theme, 'Hippy Night' ('Peace and Rice') 40's, 50's nights. Seasoned regulars to these events knew not to sit on the front row, whilst unsuspecting newbies took up these 'spare' seats, only to have Eddies derrière waggled in their mush, sticking out as it was - through the two holes neatly cut out of his leather jeans as he strutted on stage to the band playing 'Honky Tonk Woman'. The girl backing singer for one such event wore nothing but a bin liner, which disappeared half way thru the set.
Needless to say the venue was packed to the doors each Tuesday night.

Think 'Cabaret' meets 'The Rocky Horror Show'”
