Press article plugging a very early Birthday Party gig at the tiny DeVilles club off Albert Sq in 81. A goth-tastic Joanne Whalley (Kilmer) used to work behind the bar.

I had it in my head that Nick and the boys once played at Cloud9 off Cross St but can find no record of such a gig on the website where I found this.

Not sure what they would have made of them at York Territorial Army Centre!

“Easy tiger!

Yeah, she sang backing vox with Stockport post-punk band the SlowGuns for a while.

“Roxy? Was that in the Underground market? I bought some comedy trousers from there once. Too embarassing to describe!”

“Joanne Whalley was our singer's bezzy mate (Pressure, Janice Addnett).

Wouldn't have minded a pop at her myself back then but I found her a tad aloof shall we say!

Perhaps she had slightly higher aspirations than a bunk-up with a scrote drummer from Hattersley??? :D”
