Membership Card
The Hacienda
1982

My membership card for the Hacienda - honoury membership was awarded to those who attended the first night, I believe. An inaudible Bernard Manning kicked of proceedings followed by an impassioned speech by a barely-more audible Tony Wilson. The pass was very handy for breezing in while my mates stoood in the queue! That said my main memory of the early days was how empty it always was. It was freezing! And it opened 7 nights a week!

“I quite liked the early freezing Hacienda, so much easier to get in.
I will now listen to ' ...Elastic Man' in your honour.”

“I joined The Hacienda for the first year - member 157 - yet never went - I thought my £2 or whatever it was would help Tony get the club going - little realising how it was actually financed.

At 26 I decided I was past it - and regret to this day not going along to see Orange Juice Cabaret Voltaire and I think Simple Minds - that were advertised in a little pamphlet that was sent out in the post each month or quater.”

“Weren’t these the second year membership cards (1983) Thought the first cards were embossed like credit cards, with no picture”
