The Dancing Tarantulas were graduates of The Northern Ballet Theatre (...well,The White Horse pub in Hulme at least) who could oft be seen prancing/projectiling themselves around inner city venues in the early Eighties,mostly in a punk rock stylee.They comprised of three young gadabouts:-Baron von Nasty,general man about town;Monsta,a biker dread bricklayer from Wigan,and Tim a.k.a.Tinkerbell,a fashionista type with a sunflower hair-do.Although they weren't strictly (anything like!) a band they took their antics from the dancefloor and onto the stage supporting bands such as The Damned,Gun Club,Anti-Nowhere League,Southern Death Cult,,Simply Red(!) and numerous others,usually encoring to the sound of one hand clapping...the other hand used for glass throwing,abuse etc.all good clean fun though.It was mooted at some point there might be a gig with The Jazz Defectors and Breaking Glass,an all dancing affair but alas t'weren't meant to be.Their last gig was supporting Pogue Mahone,The Addicts and King Kurt at the London Lyceum,December '83 which culminated in the Greater London Fire Brigade having to escort them off stage.Such is life....The Hacienda flyer for Christmas '83 has a pretty impressive line-up on it and although you pretty much had to wear a snorkel parka to keep warm the bands I can recall were usually worth it.P.S.I'm not much cop with computers and I don't know how to make this flyer larger/clearer.I've got lots of Manchester stuff from late 70's to 1990.Might need some assistance....etc.
