Flyer
Lavolta Lakota
Attic
8th August 1987

Nice to see that bit of Jazz Defector’s footage from Tokyo.....O.K. this Lavolta Lakota flyer...prob circa ’87.I don’t know when the Hulme Labour Club shut down but it was used sporadically for various ventures, including part of John Martin’s Romany City as far as recall;(that man put a curse on me once, didn’t work; not yet anyway.....).I don’t recall seeing bands there, except maybe Dub Sex .Anyway “Indian” Dave (who’d worked in The Roxy Shop in the Underground Market or The Oasis(?),as had Johnny Marr), was the singer in this band, which would account for the band name .I remember them playing with Southern Death Cult at The Elizabethan Rooms in London ,with The Dancing Tarantulas in support and they were good ;don’t know if they ever put out any music though .I know he later played with Peter Hook in Revenge....so there’s a happy ending for ya....Scary I can remember some of this stuff and not remember stuff from yesterday!!Ah well It’ll be happy doolaly in the old folks home with me Walkman and C90 tapes...can’t wait!

“Hey Dubwise-er! It would be great if you could crop some of these images and then they don't have the big white space around them. If you get in touch with your phone number I can help with this. Email me at info@mdmarchive.co.uk Your uploads are amazing!”

“nice find dubwise-er, as the band released a 7" on Factory Benelux in '84 this flyer's probably a bit earlier than '87, line up was 'Indian' Dave Hicks, Michael 'Moist' Eastwood, Ged Duffy and Guy Ainsworth.”

“I think this gig was before the single, I was the original drummer but I think I'd left by this time (my memory is rubbish !). I do remember a gig at Devilles too with a fabaroony new lazer light show rigged up. I'd say 'cockerney Dave' was the sole reason that Death Cult turned from red indians to Led Zep in the mid 80's, Dave being a chum of Astbury.”

“I designed and drew this flyer. We were a bunch of students that put on about 5 bands on at Hulme Labour Club in 86/87, I named it Attak the Attik, but we used The Attik to advertise, bands included Lavolta Lakota, Brigandage and Sub Humans with Pete Hook on the mixing desk for Lavolta Lakota , those were the days!”
