Blue Orchids, The Passage
16th March 1982

Extract from a magazine called "Masterbag" which described itself as "The new release magazine of the independent wholesalers". Don't know where I picked it up from but just flicking through it makes some quite interesting reading and an insight into what was happening round '82. Didn't know Mikey Dread had produced a Zounds record....The Hoax get a couple of mentions;remember Watty from The Exploited having them in his top 5 bands list in Sounds one time;not sure if that helped their career any...Stuff about Chris Sievey, Carmel, The Fall etc.
The Passage track X.O.Y.O. had an exemplary example of hand-clapping on it ,and they and Blue Orchids had been erstwhile residents of Chaz Baz Cresc. Hulme, during their long and illustrious careers.

“The magazine was published by The Cartel, the independent record distribution network. It was a pretty good thing, had a flexidisc in it and I think it was free. Very sub-Smash Hits layout but useful for learning about what was up and coming.”
