Manchester Town Hall
13th December 1987

Don’t think I was at this. The only event I recall going to in the Town Hall (other than a colliery brass band when I was about 13, which was much better than I expected as a stroppy teenager), was the book launch for “On the Eighth Day”. Don’t know whatever happened to my copy.
Also my mate, being an ex- employee of the Town Hall, often used to pop in to see a couple of his old comrades. Afterwards we’d always walk past the meeting halls, and if proceedings had been adjourned for the day we’d avail ourselves of the complimentary de-luxe cheeses, gourmet sandwiches etc. that Lord Mayors and their ilk are so justly entitled to after all their magnanimous civic duties.Usually, with the odd pocket stuffed, we'd depart that earthly paradise a little more hail and hearty for the long walk home;well pity to waste it.....Eeh we were scallywags..
