Record Peddler
1980

I usually side with Napoleon B. when it comes to notions of shopkeepers but as dealers went ,this shop was better than most ,with bootlegs aplenty. They were opposite The Band On The Wall and covered the waterfront of most musical stylings.Guesstimating '80.

“Kind words and really surprised to come across our old business card on here. Memories came flooding back. Some of the best times of my life running that shop wirh Mark! I worked for the original guys who opened it in 1980 to 1982, then Mark and I took it over from 1982 until 1989 after which time I left. Mark continued to run it for sometime afterwards. Cheers, Craig”

“Great shop, I used to spend far too much time in there. Craig and Mark were great at ordering obscure stuff I'd vaguely caught the name of on Peel the night before.”

“I used to buy my Mayflower club tickets, which were like blotting paper here, and bought quite a few punk albums from here too. One image sticks in my mind about this place, and that is they were really friendly and also they had a huge Tom Petty poster in there. Okay that's a bit vague but hey it's a lifetime ago.”

“Hi All,
Mark here, from Record Peddler. The shop stayed open until 1992, I then spent three years doing record fairs around the UK and Europe, eventually selling the stock to the guy who took over at Swan Street and opened a guitar shop.
I kept some stuff and still have a lot of Factory label collectables and other bits and bobs.
It's great to hear that the shop is still remembered fondly by customers. In those pre- social media days, I never did get the chance to say thank you to everyone who supported the shop over the years, so I'll do it now... 'Thank you' to each and every one of you.”

“fantastic shop- got my copy of The Birthday Party's ‎– Junkyard from there (dead cheap too!) went there with my schoolmate Kev and he found it really intimidating-thus a proper record shop!
had a copy of www.discogs.com/The-Homosexuals-Bigge...
for a fiver (very early 80's) but by the time i got £5 together it had gone, always had a copy of Duck Stab in- whoever was involved, bless you..”

“Hi Pants Cat,
Great to hear from you. Mark here, stuck in enforced isolation in a Spanish Villa!
Duck Stab by the Residents I guess you are talking about! Yeah, certain things did always seem to be in stock. Interesting to watch posts elsewhere about records we couldn't give away back in the day.
A prime example would be the debut single of the Stone Roses 'So Young/Tell me' we had signed copies, white label copies and the standard issue, but although I loved it and played it a lot, it was a very slow mover at first.
Anyway, keep in touch. It's Mark here by the way!”

“was but a child at the time (ahem)
so the staff were too cool to talk to.
(wasn't the case obv.)
one of you had spex and really thick hair that was parted just so.
loved that shop so much, no one seems to remember it but it was a "hub"
there was a Board (i mean one with drawing pins ) someone was asking £49 for the TG 24
cassette thing-like i say v.early 80's-the fact that someone had even heard of it made the shop even more cool-thanks these things count as far as i'm concened!”

“still wouldn't touch the Stone Roses with a bargepole mind-too much graffiti round town as well.”

Stay safe,
Craig”

“Yeah, Jeff asked if it was okay to share my number and I was happy for him to do so.
That sounds like a plan.
Are you still living in and around Manchester? Are you on WhatsApp? If so, find me on there....”

“I absolutely loved this shop. First discovered it when I was 15 around 1981ish. I bought my Mayflower tickets from here and as far as my memory serves me the paper was very similar to raffle tickets but obviously not raffle tickets hahahaha.
I bought Feeding Of The 5000 by crass on Small Wonder for £2. It's worth a bit more nowadays I believe. Yes I still have it ; )))

Record Peddler....wow X
