Hulme Carnival
27th August 1988

Hulme Carnival ’88, this time at Birley High School, Alma Mater to certain Jazz Defectors, Armed Force members, Dancing Tarantulas and I’m sure a few other M/c bands/ artists. Although The Hulme Carnival was much smaller than the Moss Side Carnival it still had a good atmosphere and a community feel about it. I don't recall the school being used very often for community events although I think Bonfire Night circa '89 it had loads of bands including Dub Sex, Flea etc.

I'm endeavouring to keep things chronological and consecutive as I’m working my way through these uploads but it’s not always possible given the time and the sizeable amount of stuff involved. I went looking for a photo to upload the other day and found a whole stack of other papers instead, so time wise, it has set me back a bit. I’ll be a bit more selective on the quality control with that batch; must press on....

“the hulme carnival in 1977/8 was brilliant, hulme band NEW-FORM played on the toilet roof which was the stage and later HARLEM SPIRIT were superb.another day that will be remembered for being a mancunian!”
