Here is a picture of one of Manchester's punk originals. This is Denise a Ranch regular, she was featured in the Brass Tacks punk rock discussion programme. Denise was one of the Ranch Posse who travelled to see Manchester bands all over the country. She got a beating more than once for the way she looked - even though it looks quite tame by today's standards. Being a punk was decidedly dangerous in the early days and you didn't have to be too outrageous to get a hiding in Piccadilly Gardens on your way home.
I'm pretty sure this is in the Circus, the other girl in the pic was a regular too but I can't recall her name - God how did I get so f'ing old!!

“Hi Denise - I wondered if you might eventually check this site out. Had this picture thirty years plus, brings back so many memories. Dancing to Rum and Coca Cola at the Ranch, that old Andrews Sisters' tune still send chills down my spine to this day!
When we took a coachload of Manchester punks to Wolverhampton to see the Pistols the coach driver wouldn't take us back to Collyhurst and arranged for the cops to meet us in Piccadilly and kick us all out.
Brilliant times never to be forgotten I recall you used to carry a little camera with you on many occasions so you must have some stuff worth posting!

“Hi, yes i used to have loads of pics but a lot had been given away (like my posters). I still have loads though (billy idol with red hair) i need to get them converted onto a disc, i will have to find somewhere that will do this. D”

“I was watching the Story of Top of the Pops 1977 on BBC four last night - interesting to see punk bands starting to push through the usual dross on the show. But, who was featured as the example of kids all over the country going punk? Why it was our Denise, getting made up for a night out (at the Ranch no doubt) from the Brass tacks programme I mentioned in the first post. No doubt that will be on lots more so watch out for it, or look it up on iplayer.”
