From City Life March ’83. Add for the great Ian Dury and a latter day band at The Poly. “There ain’t ‘alf been some clever bastards...” and he was right. Got a big poster somewhere of The Stiff Tour ’78, from a meet and greet at Piccadilly Station; maybe it’ll turn up some day.....
Put the ZTT add above as it had a certain Manchester input behind the label. Clever stuff in their marketing really. Rediscovered Frankie’s “Welcome to the Pleasuredome” track just recently and forgot what a great and superbly produced track it was; all from the geek from Buggles. I do remember seeing Bruce Woolley and the Camera Club supporting The Radio Stars at the Old Poly, he being the man who penned that “Video Killed The....” etc. I don’t think that video did away with the Radio Stars though; I think built –in obsolescence might have had something to do with it. Who could forget though the catchy “The Beast of Barnsley”, or “Dirty Pictures...get my kicks in the attic with my Kodak instamatic”? I think their best work was already long behind them....
Oh yeah, Chalice were good. At the end they did a tribute/ parody of all the big reggae stars of the day:- Peter Tosh, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown and the like.
