From the City Life “Student Special” issue for Oct ’88; 4 years on from the student special for ’84 I uploaded a while back ...(you do the math...). Other than time lapse photography, these mags give a good insight into the morphing and constantly changing city life and landscape as it moved ever onwards to sophistication and the burgeoning “Madchester” thingy. Every man and his mutt are touting for attention in this “pick me ,pick me!” issue ‘cos if there was one thing new students were good for was, many “freshers” would have been ripe for the picking, first time away from home an’ all, and possibly wadded up.
Decoy Records, up that ramp and possibly still there. ...? Definitely specialised, but good all the same, although I seem to recall it did have a bit of that “Hi -Fidelity “ feel about it. Powercuts: pre/ post Yanks? A good ‘n cheap one stop shop if you liked your album covers with their corners cut off or a hole punched through; good for saving a bob or two and something to do with import duty....Bostocks in the Arndale was similar-ish but the sleeves were left intact.
