Mick Hucknall
Manchester Polytechnic Mandela Building
31st March 1984

Mick Hucknall, post-Frantic Elevators, pre-Simply Red... anyone remember that he fronted a band called 'World Service'?

Press article from City Life No.8, April '84, p23. Neglects to mention the venue... however the main article from the previous issue (No.7) features Alexei Sayle who was due to headline a gig at Manchester Poly on March 31 (16-17), and an ad for the show appears on p18 of City Life No.7.

According to the ad in issue 7, Alexei Sayle was due to be supported by Barb. World Service must've stepped into the breach at the last moment. Mick Hucknall was a resident DJ at the Poly around this time, doing the 'Black Rhythm & Soul' nights on Wednesdays, so perhaps that's how this appearance came about.
