A Flyer for gigs at Ray's Place in Stockport. Can't remember going to any of these or to Ray's Place for that matter but it was a great reggae line up for the 23rd!

“I was at this gig with my friend Ben Chudy. We were the only two white boys there, but everyone was cool. We met the only two white girls there, Sue & Sue, which led to me later meeting my wife.It was so weird that this was in Stockport, just had no connections to dub reggae at all. The music and atmosphere were fantastic, there was also some kind of religious Rasta thing going on. Also think that Prince Jammy was on the bill. I believe that he still lives in Manchester.
As for the Smirks. They were the Altincham Grammar boy band led by Simon Smirk. Saw them at Rafters where they were supported by Debbie Sicky & Cathy de la Creme doing their John Cooper Clarke punk poetry thing. I was with Jenny Claire Smithson-Brown at the time, and this was the moment she became Jenny Eclair.
Richard Creme (L'Homme) was also with us, which takes us back to Ray Terret. Probably about 1978 I was with Richard at Maxine's, the first Jewish niteclub, Ray Terret was also there. He got chatting to Richard, who was 7'4" tall, and put the proposition to him, that he would pay Richard money to watch him fuck a midget (I know that this is not politically correct, but it happened). Richard of course turned him down, and we now know more about "Ugly Ray Terret".
Finally, we all knew about Jimmy Saville in the 70's, but the grown-ups chose to ignore this, shame that on them”
